John Rush, O.D.
A longtime resident of Curry County, Dr. Rush is very active in the optometric profession and in the community. He served on the Oregon Optometric Association Board of Directors from 1974-1980, was President of the association in 1978, and served as a Trustee on the Board of Directors of the American Optometric Association for 5 years. He has given over a hundred speeches nationally on continuing education in optometry. He has had a private practice in Gold Beach and Brookings for over 30 years. In addition, he is the president of Rush Technologies, a company which manufactures ophthalmic instruments and develops software for eyecare offices. His company is the largest eyecare website development company in America. He served on the board of trustees of Pacific University (Forest Grove, Oregon). He is a member of Rotary International and has been instrumental in the development of a "Eye Mission" project to Ecuador over a period of 5 years. He served a 5 year term as Port Commissioner of the Port of Gold Beach in 1980. His wife Hazel is a photographer and artist. They have 6 children and 4 grandchildren.

Douglas Walker, O.D.
Dr. Walker received his doctorate from Pacific University College of Optometry in 1999, after having served his externships at Carl Albert Indian Health Facility in Ada, Oklahoma, Portland Vision Centers and in Gold Beach, Oregon with Dr. John Rush.
Dr. Walker has been very active with various optometric associations and is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Oregon, Washington & Montana Optometric Physicians Associations, and the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. He is the 1999 winner of the Oregon Optometric Association Student of the Year, in addition to numerous other awards and honors. Dr. Walker provides additional expertise to the Eye Centers of Gold Beach and Brookings in the co-management of Diabetic Retinopathy and Glaucoma.

Nicole Erenfeld, O.D.
Dr. Erenfeld graduated from Pacific University College of Optometry in 2001. She received Optometry Student of the Year for 2001. She served the Oregon Optometric Physicians Association on the Education Committee 2004. She has participated in eye mission projects in Honduras and Ecuador. She has served on the Bandon Cranberry Festival committee since 2002. She grew up in Gold Beach and attended Gold Beach schools. She was active in the Science club and Gold Beach sports. Her primary interests are in health and fitness. Her husband Peter is a pilot for Horizon Airlines and they have two daughters.

John Flaxel, M.D.
John T. Flaxel, MD was born and raised in North Bend, Oregon. He attended the University of Oregon in Eugene (B.A. in Chemistry) and the University of Oregon Medical School (M.S. Pathology 1962, M.D. 1963). After internship at the University of Chicago, he served in the Army Medical Corps for 2 years and then completed his ophthalmology residency training at the University of Oregon Health Sciences Center in 1969. He remained on faculty for one year before returning to North Bend in 1970 to establish private practice. He has specialized in eye surgery. He has performed over five thousand cataract surgeries. Dr. Flaxel and his wife, Joy, have six grown children, spoiled grandchildren, and live in Glasgow. Family interests include hunting, skiing, golfing and sports. Professionally he is active in the American Academy of Ophthalmology as a developer and director of its professional liability and group insurance programs.

Karl Henne
Karl is the Certified Optician for Curry Eye Centers in both the Brookings and Gold Beach locations. A 1982 graduate of Valley College in Hollywood, California, Karl joined Dr. Rush's office in 1986 and has been caring for the optical eyewear needs of Curry County ever since.
